Note: the image will be updated with more historically appropriate cloth that will be used in this class.
This hands-on course focuses on both the strength and elegance of the supported French Link technique, known for its distinctive chain-like stitch pattern and the added durability provided by linen tapes. These tapes not only reinforce the binding but also create the iconic raised bands often seen on antique spines.

Learn to identify and use traditional bookbinding tools and materials
Prepare, fold, and sew signatures using accurate historical methods
Explore techniques to produce strong, clean, and aesthetically pleasing bindings
Finish your book with careful attention to detail and period-appropriate craftsmanship
Whether you’re a beginner, a creative looking for a new medium, or a bookbinder expanding your historical knowledge, this class will immerse you in the art and technique of medieval-to-early modern binding practices.
Materials will be provided, and each participant will leave with a fully sewn 4×6 hand-bound book—crafted entirely by you using time-honored methods.
Join us from 10 am to approximately 3 pm and begin your journey into the historic world of supported French Link binding!
