Better Together Butterfly Stitch Binding—Jan 8, 2027 @ 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm

Butterfly stitch binding is an elegant sewn structure that creates a flexible book with a distinctive exposed spine. In this technique, folded sections are sewn together using a pattern that gathers stitches into small bundled groups along the spine. When viewed from the side, these bundles resemble the shape of butterfly wings, giving the binding its name and a unique visual character.

* We have a variety of available decorative materials, and options may not exactly match the pictured book.

The structure allows the book to open fully flat, making it especially well-suited for journals, sketchbooks, scrapbooks, and photo albums. Because the sewing connects sections in grouped intervals rather than tightly along the entire spine, the book has natural flexibility and space between sections. This breathing room makes it possible to accommodate thicker papers, photographs, or added materials without placing stress on the binding.

The exposed sewing becomes a defining design element of the book. Rather than being hidden inside a traditional spine structure, the stitches remain visible and celebrate the craftsmanship of the binding itself. The result is a structure that is both strong and visually striking while remaining practical for everyday use.

Note! We will have several different “butterfly” papers to choose from for your book, if desired.
