Bring your favorite story to life in a whole new way with our Bind Your Favorite Fan Fiction class or bind a personal writing project. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the traditional Japanese stab binding method while creating a beautifully bound edition of your favorite fan fiction or personal writing.
Participants are invited to bring their own printed text—such as fan fiction, short stories, or original works—formatted on standard 8.5 x 11″ paper—up to 150 (approximately—call if you have questions on this) printed pages. Whether it’s a well-loved series or a personal project, this class is the perfect way to celebrate your favorite stories in physical form.
Throughout the class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of stab binding, a decorative and functional binding method known for its visible stitching and ability to hold single-sheet pages securely.
Your instructor will guide you through the full process, including:
An overview of stab binding history and its cultural roots in East Asia.
Preparing and organizing your printed pages for binding.
Measuring, punching, and aligning sewing holes.
Stitching your book using a classic four-hole stab binding pattern.
Adding covers and finishing touches to complete a clean, sturdy final piece.
All binding materials are provided. You just bring your printed pages and your enthusiasm for the story you’ve chosen. By the end of class, you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind bound book—and the skills to bind more at home.
This class welcomes beginners and experienced crafters alike. Come ready to turn your favorite fiction into a beautiful, hand-bound keepsake using one of the most iconic and accessible binding methods in the world.
